Demon Project: Fear is my rage

22/01/08  ||  Lord K Philipson

It’s not like you get registered letters from Russia each and every day. And to say that I thought Demon Project (whoa, that’s some effort put into the name, for sure) would actually hold even one good riff on this EP would be a huge fucken lie. We all know that Russia hardly produces anything worthwhile besides Tatu and Kruiz, right? But Demon Penis kinda surprised me with their melodic, electronica-spiced metal, to say the least.

The title track is actually a downright goodie and the one tune that I definitely recommend you take a listen to. DP sure got talent and more often than not do I nod my head approvingly. I would even go as far as saying they have some riffs and ideas that I could easily have created for my own band (The Project Hate MCMXCIX, nothing else), which is a compliment if I ever saw one. And you know I’m huge on handing out compliments.

Suck it.

Demon Balls throw in some Middle Eastern influences here and there too, and it works excellent with what they do on this EP. Demon Vagina (now the jokes have reached their peak) could probably list 4 million bands from different genres that inspire them if they were asked to, and that’s another plus. They have interesting ideas going on most of the time and you are often surprised as for what ends up after the usual metal passage delivered to you. Variation and diversity are 2 good words to use to describe the demon present.

I’m definitely liking what the Russians have created and I look forward to hear what they will unleash in the future. These guys are good. Not Tatu-good, but nonetheless good.

7,5/10.
